The Opportunity:
Our client, a well-established and innovative consumer goods company with a national presence, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their dynamic HR and Total Rewards team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented payroll professional to manage full-cycle payroll for a diverse employee population across corporate, field sales, and retail locations.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR & Total Rewards, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of semi-monthly payroll while driving system enhancements and ensuring compliance with federal and provincial legislation. This is a hands-on role well-suited to someone who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Administer full-cycle semi-monthly payroll, including onboarding, offboarding, salary updates, and statutory entitlements.
- Maintain and validate time and attendance records to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Manage reconciliations, adjustments, garnishments, and government remittances.
- Execute year-end payroll activities such as T4s and RL-1s in line with legislative requirements.
- Serve as the system administrator for Dayforce, overseeing configuration, troubleshooting, and data integrity.
- Support audits, compliance reviews, and Workers' Compensation Board reporting.
- Monitor legislative changes and propose process improvements for payroll efficiency.
- Lead Dayforce-related process enhancements and integrations with IT, HR, Benefits, and Finance.
- Conduct testing, generate reports, and manage ongoing HRIS optimization.
- Maintain system security and uphold data integrity standards.
- Resolve vacation calculation issues and respond to employee system inquiries.
- Provide timely payroll reports to Finance on a pay-period and monthly basis.
- Ensure accurate and timely remittance of payroll-related statutory payments, including Employer Health Tax and WCB.
- Complete year-end reconciliations in compliance with federal and provincial laws.
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries and system access support.
- Create and maintain payroll policies and procedures aligned with business needs.
What You'll Need To Be Successful:
- 3+ years of full-cycle, multi-provincial payroll experience (Quebec experience strongly preferred).
- Advanced working knowledge of Dayforce HCM, including time and attendance and system configuration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables).
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and year-end processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of discretion with confidential information.
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
