The Opportunity

Reporting to the AVP, Claims the Manager, Claims leads the management and execution of key claims responsibilities, including the oversight and resolution of complex reinsurance claims, ensuring compliance with treaty terms. Effective collaboration with internal and external partners is essential. The position will drive key claims strategic initiatives and operational success through positive employee engagement, while fostering a culture of accountability. This is a critical role that bridges claims expertise with business strategy and reinsurer relationship management.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule. This position may require some travel, particularly to member companies within Ontario.

As the successful candidate, you will:

• Manage and oversee reinsurance claims from reporting to settlement, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contractual obligations
• Analyze and interpret reinsurance treaties, facultative certificates and coverage terms
• Monitor, review and approve reinsurance claims reserves and payments, and report details to reinsurers
• Provide guidance and coaching to a team of claims analysts
• Collaborate with our member companies on complex claims issues
• Work within the Claims leadership team on strategic and operational initiatives for the claims department
• Analyze and report on claims trending and financial activities of the claims department
• Monitor the external environment for developments that could impact the claims department operations/processes

Your Skills and Qualifications

• You have a bachelor's degree or a combination of equivalent industry certification (i.e. CIP, FCIP) and/or experience
• You have a minimum of 10 years experience in claims handling within the casualty line of business, particularly general and commercial liability and automobile tort. Experience with property claims handling is an asset
• You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role
• You have strong business partnering skills, experience working across business units/functions and collaboration in a team environment
• You have strong analytical skills, assessing factors and developing innovative and practical solutions to manage complex claims and achieve department goals
• Strong decision-making capabilities
• Knowledge of reinsurance structures (treaty and facultative) is an asset
