Director of Product

Job Type:Full Time PermanentLocation: Toronto - HybridReports to: Senior Vice President

What will be your key responsibilities?

Financial & Strategic Execution

  • Support the SVP in meeting budgeted pre-tax income targets through product performance and margin control.
  • Recommend and implement cost efficiencies to improve profitability within the product portfolio.
  • Identify growth opportunities, including premium product segments and emerging destinations.
  • Assist in preparing the annual business plan and operating budget for the Product department.
  • Oversees the management and reporting of co-op funding from tourism boards, supplier overrides, and airline partners to support promotions and FAM initiatives.

Sales, Promotions & Market Presence

  • Track and optimize sales leads, quote conversion rates, and closing rate to support revenue growth.
  • Coordinate promotional campaigns with tourism boards, DMCs, airlines, and travel trade partners.
  • Maintain a calendar of promotions, including flyers, eZines, website specials, and eblasts.
  • Ensure web content is consistently accurate, enticing, and aligned with product systems (e.g., iVector).

Product Development & Costing

  • Oversee the management of cross divisional supplier partners. These partners would include all Bed Banks, Car rental suppliers, APT and cruise lines
  • Implementation of the RFP process for the onboarding of new supplier partners including the management of supplier SLA's.
  • Coordination of supplier API integration with IT and operating divisions
  • Work closely with Product Managers on itinerary development, copywriting, and product selection.
  • Ensuring a balanced product line approach across all divisions that includes pricing bands, travel styles and travel types
  • Ensure product content and pricing are accurate and aligned across internal systems and digital platforms.
  • Overseeing the management of the product loading team ensuring a consistency in product build with speed to market.

Team Training & Enablement

  • Support the rollout of the RISE program to elevate the Destination Specialist's product expertise and service standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance and consistency of our training modules for destination information, product offered and quizzes, with the goal of creating Destination Specialist product "Experts".
  • Lead and motivate cross-functional teams within the product and sales support structure, applying a "pyramid" model of leadership and mentorship.
  • Partner with People & Culture on recruitment, onboarding, and change management within the department.
  • Conduct performance reviews, ensuring individual KPIs and sales targets are met.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and execution of department policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
  • Oversee planning and logistics for FAM trips and prize winner travel arrangements.
  • Respond to escalated customer complaints and refund requests with professionalism and efficiency.

Reporting & Insights

  • Report weekly and monthly on product performance, gross bookings, margin contribution, and lead generation.
  • Track quote volumes, lead sources, and conversion trends to guide promotional and sales efforts.

What are we looking for?

  • Product Development & Market Strategy - Ability to identify growth opportunities, negotiate supplier contracts, and enhance product competitiveness.
  • Sales & Marketing Enablement - Proven skills in promotional campaigns, lead conversion, digital marketing, and sales team collaboration.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making - Strong analytical skills to track performance, interpret market trends, and adjust strategies using CRM/BI tools.
  • Operational & Project Management - Ability to manage, report and meet critical timelines
  • Team Leadership & Training - Experience in mentoring teams, conducting performance reviews, and implementing training programs (e.g., RISE).
  • Stakeholder & Customer Relations - Skilled in managing supplier partnerships, resolving escalations, and maintaining strong industry relationships.
  • Travel product buying experience is a must to be successful in this role.
  • Bonus: Travel industry experience and a business/finance degree are a plus.
