Microsoft Systems Administrator

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Reporting to the IT Manager, we are looking for a dependable and technically skilled Microsoft Systems Administrator to join our IT team. This is a strategic technical role responsible for managing and optimizing our Microsoft cloud environment, with a strong focus on backend services including Intune, Microsoft Defender, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra (Azure AD), and other M365 services.

Responsibilities:

• Lead administration and lifecycle management of Microsoft 365 services, including Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.

• Design, configure, and manage mobile device management (MDM) policies and endpoint security using Microsoft Intune and related tools.

• Oversee identity and access management through Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), including conditional access policies, MFA, and identity lifecycle automation.

• Implement and maintain compliance, security, and governance policies across Microsoft 365 workloads.

• Support user account administration in Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and other enterprise systems.

• Assist in the setup and deployment of new hardware, including asset tracking.

• Maintain and update IT documentation, asset inventory, and support logs.

• Provide recommendations on best practices, licensing optimization, and evolving M365 features and capabilities.

• Serve as a technical escalation point for advanced troubleshooting and resolution of Microsoft service-related issues.

• Collaborate with the IT team on routine system updates, patching, and backup procedures.

• Travel and work throughout Atlantic Canada as needed

• Adhere to Strum's health and safety program and ensure safety procedures and protocols are followed.

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• 2+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Intune.

• Must possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License.

• Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

• Deep understanding of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, and Microsoft compliance solutions.

• Willingness to be available for occasional off-hours support or after-hours maintenance as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with mobile device management and application deployment using Intune.

• Basic understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS).

• Proficiency with Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365 apps, and remote support tools.

• Experience using a ticketing system (e.g., ServiceNow, Freshservice, Jira).

• Strong PowerShell scripting skills for automation and configuration management.

• Knowledge of hybrid identity models and integration with on-premise infrastructure.

• Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-102, SC-300, AZ-104, or equivalent) are a strong asset.
