Main Functions:
The Indirect Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring the goods and services that are not directly involved in the production of finished products, such as MRO, IT equipment, facility services, office supplies, professional services, and manufacturing equipment.
The Indirect Buyer plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations by ensuring that all non-production needs are met efficiently and cost-effectively. The position works closely with various departments, such as production, IT, engineering, and HR, to understand their requirements, source appropriate suppliers, negotiate favorable terms, manage supplier relationships, an ensuring continuity of the business.
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of strong planning, organizational and technical skills. This role requires strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Coordinate and execute the requisition-/procure-to-pay process for indirect goods and services, such as MRO, office supplies, IT equipment, facility services, professional services, and capital equipment.
- Coordinate the RFI, RFP, RFQ processes for the Indirect category.
- Source and ensure on-time availability of goods and services required by the business.
- Monitor, enhance, and develop action plans based on key purchasing indicators, such as costing and cost savings, and supplier delivery and service performance.
- Coordinate supplier selection and development process, including potential supplier identification and evaluation, cost and service-level negotiations, and inventory management.
- Conduct business reviews with suppliers and implement/strengthen supplier performance metrics.
- Develop strong working relationships with cross-functional teams including Production, Sales, and Engineering to understand and anticipate needs and to enhance processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to drive the most optimal total cost of ownership when considering the entire supply chain (price, lead time, shipping/logistics, tariffs/duties, manufacturing processes, service level required, etc.).
- Identify and propose mitigation plans for potential risks associated with purchasing, such as supply chain disruptions or supplier failures for the Indirect category.
- Adjust/modify purchasing plans to accommodate rush orders, goods and services supply delays, etc. to minimize impact to the business and customers.
- Assess purchasing processes and make recommendations for continuous improvements.
- Provide recommendations to enhance the business to handle projected growth.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's degree or college diploma in business or a related discipline.
- Purchasing and/or Supply Chain degree, certification, and/or accreditation is an asset.
- Experience: 3+ years of Purchasing experience in a related industry, specifically working to support the manufacturing of custom products.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both intra- and interdepartmentally.
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
Working Conditions:
- This role is located in an office environment, with frequent visits to factory floors.
- Position requires travel to suppliers.
