Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Lab Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of asphalt and aggregate testing laboratory, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications. This role includes supervising field and lab technicians, managing the quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) of materials, and supporting paving and granular placement activities across project sites.

Primary Scope of Role

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the asphalt and aggregate laboratory.
  • Oversee testing of asphalt, aggregates, and related construction materials in accordance with MTO, CSA, ASTM, and project specifications.
  • Supervise and train laboratory and field technicians to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely results.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and ensure proper documentation and traceability of all test results.
  • Support quality control on paving sites, including compaction testing, asphalt sampling, and inspection of material placement.
  • Conduct quality assurance activities on granular material placement, including field density testing and gradation verification.
  • Review and analyze test data to support continuous improvement and troubleshoot material performance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Coordinate with project managers, operations teams, and clients regarding material quality issues and performance trends.
  • Maintain laboratory certifications and ensure adherence to internal and external audit requirements.

Position Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in materials testing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt and aggregate materials, mix designs, and field quality control procedures.
  • Familiarity with MTO and municipal specifications.
  • Certification(s) such as CCIL, ACI, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to local job sites as required
