Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Salvagnini P4 and S4 Machine Programmer to join our fabrication team. This position is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating Salvagnini panel benders (P4) and punch-shear centers (S4) to produce sheet metal components according to engineering drawings and production specifications. The ideal candidate has strong technical aptitude, hands-on manufacturing experience, and a working knowledge of software used to write or generate machine code.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform minor machine maintenance and troubleshooting, including issues related to MD, IA Table, PCD, RIP, SAP, and label printing. Address both mechanical and software-related problems to ensure smooth machine operation.
- Identify root causes of various machine issues through close observation of equipment performance and detailed troubleshooting.
- Write machine code manually or use software (e.g., Salvagnini STREAM) to generate programs based on engineering drawings and CAD files.
- Adjust and optimize parametric programs for sheet metal mockups, ensuring all dimensions and bend angles are accurate based on part design requirements.
- Apply necessary angle corrections and adjust box dimensions to achieve precise part geometry while maintaining adherence to quality and design standards.
- Set up and load sheet metal materials into the machine, verifying alignment and tooling clearance before running production. Perform first-piece inspections to ensure part quality and compliance with specifications.
- Handle S4 tooling changes, track punch and die status by material thickness, and manage tooling inventory and safety stock.
- Maintain control of final part DLO (Dimensional Layout Output) for THP parts in full-release orders, ensuring all parts remain within specified tolerances.
- Program and operate Salvagnini P4 (panel bender) and S4 (punching/shearing) machines in accordance with production schedules and part specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and work orders to determine tooling and machine setup requirements.
- Train new and existing employees in proper operation and programming of Salvagnini equipment, including safety procedures, setup, and troubleshooting.
- Regularly inspect and verify labels on each machine output to ensure correct part identification and traceability.
- Document all machine- and program-related issues in the logbook, including the solutions applied, to ensure accurate records are maintained.
- Assist in ongoing machine performance evaluations to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency.
- Perform thorough shift handovers by communicating all relevant machine status updates and job details to the next shift operator.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications
- College diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in CNC operation, mechanical technology, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and programming Salvagnini machines (P4/S4), or comparable automated CNC sheet metal equipment.
- Proficient in creating or editing machine code using proprietary or third-party software (e.g., STREAM).
- Ability to train and mentor operators and team members on Salvagnini systems and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, and Data sheets for metal fabrication processes.
- Must know how to use a tape measure
- Strong math skills including the ability to convert fractions to decimals
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently or in a team environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours or shifts as needed.
