Our client, a recognized leader in the North American aftermarket auto parts space, is searching for a Director, Category Management to join their growing Product Management team. This is a high-impact role best suited for a strategic, data-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced B2B product environment. You'll drive category strategy from ideation to execution-working closely with engineering, marketing, and sales to translate technical excellence into marketable, revenue-generating products.
While our client is in the automotive space, they are open to candidates from any industry-CPG, retail, hard goods, etc.-as long as you've scaled a physical product category and have a passion for product excellence.
What You'll Do
- Develop and lead category strategy to drive sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
- Conduct market analysis and competitive intelligence to identify opportunities and maintain a strong competitive edge.
- Own the full lifecycle of product categories, from selection and positioning to rationalization and retirement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, IT, and Customer Service to align strategy.
- Monitor customer inventory and sales to identify growth areas and optimize product availability.
- Create compelling product training and storytelling content for both internal teams and customers.
- Lead go-to-market planning, including messaging, launches, and promotional campaigns.
- Leverage data to identify trends, analyze performance, and inform strategic decisions.
- Present category performance updates and new strategies to leadership and key stakeholders.
What You Bring
- 10+ years in category, brand, or product management with a track record of growing B2B product categories.
- Experience managing both private label and branded products.
- Deep understanding of product lifecycle management, SKU rationalization, and customer inventory planning.
- Proven success launching and scaling physical products-ideally in a competitive landscape.
- Advanced data fluency-you're comfortable with tools like Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau or Power BI.
- Strong analytical and storytelling skills-you can turn technical features into marketing messages that resonate.
- Experience collaborating directly with customers to optimize product performance and solve complex problems.
- Hands-on, proactive approach with strong business acumen and a drive for results.
