The Director of responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staffing, and program delivery at the Piikani youth group home, ensuring culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and safe care for our youth. This leadership role includes managing resources, supervising staff, ensuring compliance with licensing standards, and fostering community partnerships to support the holistic well-being of youth in care.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Operations
- Oversee all day-to-day operations of the youth group home to ensure high standards of care, safety, and compliance.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols that align with provincial regulations, Piikani Nation values, and organizational goals.
- Manage the operational budget, including financial reporting, procurement, and resource allocation.
- Monitor facility maintenance to ensure a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment.
- Lead crisis management and emergency response planning.
Staff Management & Development
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise frontline staff, including child and youth care workers, kitchen, and maintenance staff.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and manage corrective action processes when required.
- Foster a supportive, safe work environment that encourages collaboration and growth.
Program Oversight
- Oversee the delivery of culturally relevant, trauma-informed programs that promote healing, education, and life skills development.
- Collaborate with Elders and outside professionals to integrate Indigenous teachings, ceremonies, and best practices into daily routines.
- Monitor program effectiveness and make data-driven improvements.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with provincial child welfare regulations, licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
- Prepare reports for the Board of Directors, funding agencies, and government partners as required.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, staff training, and program outcomes.
Community & Stakeholder Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the community, families, Child and Family Services, schools, and health services.
- Represent the organization at community events.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of youth in care.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in youth care, social services, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of youth legislation, licensing standards, and best care practices.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership, management, and supervisory skills.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively diverse stakeholders.
- Financial management and budgeting experience.
- Competence in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends when required.
- Criminal record check, vulnerable sector screening.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily conducted on-site at the group home.
- Regular interaction with youth who may exhibit behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges.
Remuneration:
- $85,000.00 to $105,000.00 negotiable depending on qualifications
