Monteith Ritsma Phillips Professional Corporation is seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Law Clerk for our Stratford office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Lawyer(s) in their broad Civil Litigation practice
  • Communicating, in a professional manner, with clients, opposing counsel, the court, and other professionals over the telephone and through email
  • Drafting, formatting, finalizing, and distributing documents, correspondence, and materials
  • Trial and arbitration preparation
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Managing key dates and calendars for lawyers, including appointments, due dates and client related activities
  • Time docketing and preparing invoices
  • Opening files, performing file reviews, ensuring files are up to date, and closing files upon completion, all done with precision
  • General administrative duties including scanning, photocopying, binding and other duties required to achieve firm objectives

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a law clerk in Civil Litigation
  • Possess a Law Clerk Diploma from recognized institution
  • A strong understanding and knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and legal procedures
  • Extremely organized
  • Thorough, with strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of GhostPractice or similar software
  • Proficiency in Outlook and other Microsoft programs
  • Knowledge of Teraview an asset
  • Experience with construction liens an asset
  • Exhibit strong writing and editing skills in the drafting, review and proofreading of legal documents, letters, internal and external emails, briefings, memos, and other forms of communication to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Experience preparing electronic correspondence and electronic documents
  • Strong software aptitude skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and general office etiquette
  • Ability to review, analyze and exercise independent judgment, set priorities, and multitask in a busy environment
  • Confident and dependable, with strong initiative and ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Welcoming and courteous demeanor, with a focus on customer service
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Must be an independent worker, resourceful, reliable, professional, a multi-tasker, and a team player
