Rideau Transit Maintenance

RTM is currently looking for experienced Hostler Supervisors to join our team. The position will report to the Senior Manager, Planning and Operations. All RTM positions are instrumental in ensuring the reliable supply of trains and maintenance services on the Confederation Line.   • As the Supervisor of Hostler Operations, you will oversee and manage all activities within the maintenance yards to ensure the availability of rolling stock vehicles and the upkeep of yard facilities. You will ensure these operations align with RTM policies, guidelines, and established plans while meeting service performance goals and controlling costs.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with RTM safety practices, policies, and procedures by both RTM teams and contractors.
  • Coordinate and communicate with cross-functional teams to maintain service and maintenance commitments.
  • Lead, supervise, and provide disciplinary guidance to hostlers while actively supporting and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Direct and manage all yard movements to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee hostler-related activities and validate associated payroll entries.
  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure employees and contractors adhere to RTM policies.
  • Mentor, train and coach team members on proper procedures, policies, and safety practices.
  • Quickly address operational challenges while maintaining safety as the top priority.
  • Participate in safety investigations to support incident resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Proficiency and comfort using computer systems and software.
  • Familiarity with a Centralized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is an asset.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Sound judgment with the ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently in dynamic environments.
  • Strong focus on health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Experience in rail transit or rail transportation is considered an asset.
  • Certifications such as Forklift Operation, Fall Arrest, and Working at Heights are advantageous.
  • Experience working in a LEED-certified facility is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Job Conditions:
  • Must be willing to work various shifts in a 24/7 environment.
  • Required to participate in on-call, standby, and emergency call-out rotations.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license is required to travel between multiple sites.
  • Must be physically capable of working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors, including during adverse weather conditions.
  • Subject to pre-employment and ongoing medical testing to ensure fitness for duty.
  • Work involves exposure to heat, cold, water, oil, grease, noise, paint, and other environmental conditions.
