Description:

The Safety Management System (SMS) Manager maintains the SMS program and reporting system as well as related documentation. The role performs functions related to the SMS such as investigations and audits supporting the overall program. The SMS Manager reports to the Director of Quality Assurance and works closely with the Person Responsible for Maintenance (PRM), Chief Inspector, Health & Safety Manager and Continuous Improvement Manager.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Assist all investigators and auditors through the SMS reporting process
  • Conduct investigations of safety-related incidents/accidents and hazards as required
  • Conduct audits of the effectiveness of corrective action taken to remedy safety incidents/accidents and hazards as required including making recommendations for improvement
  • Monitor, report, analyze trends in SMS program and make recommendations to senior management including tracking completion and effectiveness
  • Contribute to local and corporate management review of the SMS program
  • Develop and disseminate safety-related documentation including SMS Bulletins, Maintenance Alerts, monthly status reports, SMS Committee meeting minutes based on target audience
  • Deliver SMS and associated training for staff
  • Maintain the confidentiality of organizational safety reporting systems
  • Actively participate in Health & Safety program, collaborating with the H&S Manager and Committee as required
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will need to be successful in this role:

  • Valid TCCA License
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in a direct maintenance role
  • Having conversations with employees while maintaining confidentiality
  • Excellent working knowledge of Transport Canada requirements for SMS program
  • Knowledge of investigation, root cause and trend analysis methods
  • Ability to use computer systems including MS Office, DOMO, and APRISe
  • Supervisory experience an asset
