Job Summary
The Specialist, Safety Exposure Reporting is responsible for handling CN's near miss and hazard reporting system. The management entails characterizing hazards and near misses, identifying and assigning corrective actions and follow up on any overdue items. Additionally, the incumbent is accountable for creating training material, training employees on near miss and hazard reporting as well as developing and implementing initiatives that will increase reporting.
Main Responsibilities
Near Miss and Hazard Reporting
Validate and characterize the near miss and hazard reporting system
Identify corrective actions, people responsible and timelines for resolution
Track near misses and hazards to completion
Liaise with Operations when corrective actions are overdue
Training and Coaching
Create and provide training on the near miss and hazard reporting system across the unionized workforce
Provide coaching to all employees across the operations on the program in person or virtually as required
Support the resolution of Information and Technology (I&T) issues
Support Adoption Strategy
Initiate ways to promote the near miss and hazard reporting system (e.g., present at safety summits and calls)
Identify opportunities and strategies to improve the reporting process
Develop communication material that will be shared across the operations with both unionised and management employees
Collaborate with CN communication to promote near miss reporting, by developing digital signage, corporate emails and posters
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires minimal travel (up to 10%) to participate in safety audits and workshops.
Requirement
Experience
Safety, Training, or Railway
Between 2 to 5 years of experience in a safety, training or railway role
o Experience with near miss reporting
Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
College Diploma or Certification in Safety or equivalent experience
