The Centre for Advanced Technologies (CAT) is a centre for applied innovation, resulting from a partnership between the Université de Sherbrooke (UdS) and BRP. It plays a central role in the research and development of state-of-the-art transportation and mobility technologies, working alongside world-class industry partners. Electrification is one of the strategic pillars of the CAT, with sustained growth through structuring public and private projects.

We are looking for a Head of Engineering - Electrification to join our CAT team. As the Head of Engineering - Electrification, you will be responsible for overseeing all activities related to transport electrification at the CAT. You will ensure strategic, technical, and organizational leadership over a portfolio of major projects, including a research chair, projects with BRP, and both private and public programs (e.g. the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), MDA Space.

This position requires travel between the CAT (Sherbrooke) and EV team offices (Valcourt), which will allow you to act as a catalyst between internal teams, Sherbroooke University researchers, and industrial and institutional partners.

YOU'LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

Strategic Leadership

  • Define, structure, and champion the electrification vision of the CAT in alignment with BRP's goals and market opportunities.

  • Consider promoting the CAT's position as a leader in electrification to industrial partners, funders, and the public sector.

  • Represent the CAT in key forums and develop sustainable partnerships.

Program and Project Management

  • Ensure the alignment of the BRP Electrification Chair, in collaboration with the Université de Sherbrooke, its lead professor, and BRP.

    • This encompasses the role of coordinating university projects with professors, industrial partners, and BRP.

    • Supervision of project coordinator(s) (at an academic level).

    • Participate in the university project steering committee: alignment, expected outcomes, timelines, budget, student recruitment strategy for master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral students in collaboration with senior professors.

  • Coordinate private R&D projects, including:

    • Aerospace projects with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), MDA Space, etc.

    • Internal Projects with BRP.

Financial and operational management

  • Develop and track budgets, financial forecasts, and profitability indicators (profit/loss).

  • Ensure the effective management of human and technical resources and project timelines.

  • Maintain a balance between academic rigour and industrial agility.

  • Actively engage within the CTA management committee.

YOU'LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge of BRP's electrification technologies.

  • A well-established network within BRP's electrification team.

  • The ability to define and advocate for a robust and cohesive vision, both internally (CTA/UdS/BRP) and externally (clients, funders, etc.).

  • Proficiency in business development activities and external representation.

  • A university degree in engineering (bachelor's or master's).

  • At least 10 years of experience in managing projects with high technical content in multidisciplinary environments.

  • A solid technical background, ideally in electrical engineering or related fields in the electrification of transportation. Practical experience in electrification projects is essential.

  • Mastery of budget concepts, forecasting, and profit/loss management.

  • Written and spoken bilingualism required given the composition of the teams and partners on the various projects
