The Position:
The Public Relations Coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing OSPE's public presence, supporting media relations, and advancing advocacy initiatives. The role requires a strong knowledge base, excellent writing skills, and the ability to build relationships with high-level stakeholders, including subject matter experts, government officials, and partners.
You will report to the Director of Public Affairs and work closely with internal teams and volunteers. This role demands a high level of professionalism, flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to take initiative and manage unfamiliar tasks.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range $55,000 to $65,000 - remuneration based on experience

Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze key issues in engineering such as energy, infrastructure, environment, innovation, and the labour market.
- Interpret and assess federal and provincial legislation, regulations, and policy updates-including ERO postings-to inform advocacy strategy.
- Support the development of budget submissions, policy proposals, and briefing materials.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to inform policy responses and organizational direction.
- Ensure timely, high-quality submissions and responses to government and public consultations.
- Plan and support public relations events, including message development, speaker coordination, and preparation of speeches and presentations.
- Coordinate logistics for high-profile events such as Queen's Park Receptions, Federal Receptions, the Engineering Conference, and CPD webinars.
- Collaborate across departments (Marketing, Academy, Events) on projects and campaigns.
- Support OSPE Task Forces by managing meeting logistics, drafting minutes and materials, and maintaining records.
- Draft policy position papers, issue briefs, government correspondence, and briefing notes.
- Create and edit content for OSPE publications, including The Voice magazine and policy explainers.
- Maintain the advocacy section of the OSPE website and scan for relevant media and stakeholder updates.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Degree in public affairs, political science or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Proven ability to digest and synthesize complex information
- Superior writing and editing capabilities for diverse audiences
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality, accurate content
- Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management abilities
- Knowledge of federal/provincial legislative processes and policy-making
- Understanding of the engineering profession and its challenges is an asset
- Experience with professional associations or regulatory bodies preferred
- Collaborative and team-oriented, with the ability to work cross-functionally
- Skilled in Microsoft Office suite
