We're searching for an experienced Litigation Law Clerk to fill a full-time permanent role for an established law firm in Waterloo!
With five (5)+ years of experience as a litigation assistant, you will be able to hit the ground running and take on all tasks as needed!
Excellent compensation package including annual salary between 65-80K depending on experience as well as the opportunity to work with an experienced close-knit team!
Duties:
- Receives directions on the status of the file, the steps required for the conduct of the file, with instructions to meet critical deadlines.
- Assist in drafting a variety of documentation including: pleadings, motions, forms, and correspondence to meet the needs of the various steps required throughout the conduct of the file, in accordance with legislation and/or governing regulations.
- Assists the professional to ensure that each action on the file conforms to the requirements of the Courts and/or Governing Tribunals or other Government Department.
- Systematically organizes, tracks and maintains document files and case correspondence, using, where appropriate, computer database (ACL)
- Initiates follow up actions where and when necessary.
- Liaises with client to obtain and, when directed by the professional, provide information.
- Communicates directly with service providers and judicial/tribunal officials in connection with the client's file.
Skill Requirements:
- 5+ years of Law Clerk experience specifically within Litigation
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Experience with Construction Law would also be an asset
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe PDF, ACL, PC Law a MUST
- Tech savvy with knowledge of Case Centre, Online Submission Portal, and all virtual platforms (ZOOM, Teams etc.)
- Able to prioritize and redefine priorities when necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Produce a high quality and quantity of work - occasionally under tight timelines.
- Strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, highly organized and proactive.
- Capacity to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to deal with a constant workload, while being able to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to work in office; no remote work
