As the Director of Total Rewards, you will lead the strategic development and operational execution of compensation, benefits, and total rewards programs. Your mandate is to ensure the organization's offerings are competitive, compliant with legislation and collective agreements, and aligned with business goals to attract, retain, and motivate top talent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end strategy and daily management of total rewards programs.
  • Monitor market trends, external organizational structures, and best practices to ensure competitive and effective compensation and benefits programs.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on compensation strategies to support talent attraction and retention.
  • Continuously review the compensation framework, including job evaluations, benchmarking, pay band analysis, and market reviews.
  • Ensure all compensation practices comply with collective bargaining agreements, pay equity requirements, and the Employment Standards Act (ESA).
  • Partner with benefits vendors and consultants to stay informed on local legislation and regulatory changes.
  • Proactively manage benefit programs and policies to ensure ongoing legal compliance.
  • Act as key contact with Benefits Consultants for plan administration, design, implementation, and communication.
  • Oversee the accurate setup and ongoing maintenance of benefits data in ADP and ensure benefits are updated regularly.
  • Serve as the Plan Administrator for various company pension plans, including Registered Pension Plans for union and non-union employees.
  • Act as a member of the Pension Committee.
  • Manage the compensation process, including communication of guidelines to leaders and ensuring timelines are met.
  • Lead and manage a team: set goals, evaluate performance, and provide ongoing coaching and development.
  • Conduct cost/benefit and gap analyses for policy renewals. Prepare business cases for executive approval.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, HR, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10 years of progression in Human Resources, in compensation and benefits, with experience in HRIS management, including experience leading a team
  • In-depth knowledge of Total Rewards strategy and program design and execution including health benefits, retirement, pensions, merit, incentive plans, and compensation design
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) preferred
  • Experience in the analysis of complex information to develop and recommend viable long-term solutions
  • Strong understanding of local employment legislation, pay equity, and pension administration
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills
  • Experience working with vendors, consultants, and HRIS systems such as ADP
