Position: Shipping Manager

Our client in the Building Materials industry is seeking an experienced Shipping Manager to lead their shipping, and material handling operations in a fast-paced industrial environment. This role is responsible for overseeing logistics execution, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, managing a small team, and collaborating cross-functionally to meet customer delivery timelines. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic oversight and hands-on operational expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage daily shipping, and packaging operations to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely outbound and inbound logistics.
- Coordinate with internal departments including Production, Quality Assurance, and Logistics, to align shipping activities with overall production and delivery schedules.
- Ensure all customer orders are shipped with proper documentation, QA approvals, and in accordance with established standards and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor raw material and finished goods inventory levels and proactively coordinate shunting or storage requirements as needed.
- Supervise the loading of bulk tankers and packaged product shipments, maintaining high safety and quality standards.
- Lead and develop a team of shipping staff by providing training, scheduling, and performance feedback; ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate shipping records, including weight verification, labeling, shipment logs, and any required compliance documentation.
- Monitor equipment (e.g., forklifts, baggers, stretch wrappers) for readiness and safety compliance; coordinate maintenance needs where necessary.
- Uphold a clean, organized, and safe work environment by ensuring proper housekeeping and adherence to all workplace health and safety protocols.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies in the shipping process and proposing or implementing corrective actions.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, operations, or a related field is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a shipping/receiving or logistics role, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Strong working knowledge of warehouse equipment operation and safety standards; valid forklift certification is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficient in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office) and comfortable using inventory and shipping management systems.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
