Job description
We are looking for a full time skilled and innovative Mechanical Hardware Design Engineer to join our team, responsible for designing, validating, and overseeing the production of cutting-edge hardware products. The role involves end-to-end hardware development, from ideation and 3D conceptualization to producing manufacturing-ready designs and ensuring the overall quality of the product lifecycle. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and assembly, to ensure that designs are efficient, cost-effective, and meet required standards for optical and electronics applications. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping product prototypes, optimizing production processes, and maintaining the integrity of the hardware design through meticulous attention to detail, effective sourcing, and ensuring the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Designs hardware products; including ideation, 3D concept, 3D design, 2D dimensioned drawings, validation
- Maintains PDM server regularly and updates all CAD models
- Generates CAD files such as STEP, STL, DXF, DWG files for manufacturers
- Produces renderings and any supporting visuals for client presentations and concepts
- Provides input on DFM and DFA processes while having working knowledge of different manufacturing and assembly processes and principles as well as material selection
- Predicts design improvements required for efficient product development from prototypes and helps design production models by creating 3D models and engineering drawings
- Sources and streamlines the acquisition of components required in the BOM for production units while maintaining supply chain documentation and identifying suitable vendors
- Ensures that CAD drawings meet the required GD&T standards for manufacturing and assembly
- Liaises with manufacturing companies and participates in the product life-cycle from inception to production
- Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards
- Provides input on product selection and has advanced understanding of optical electronics as well as computer building
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Generates assembly manuals and installation documentation
- Trains, times, evaluates assembly processes as required for efficient assembly process
- Works with the implementation team and keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services
Some travel maybe required domestically and/or internationally
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent in mechanical/industrial or related engineering discipline
- Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in SolidWorks (CSWP or higher preferred)
- Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
- Advanced understanding of technical drawings and geometric tolerances
- Knowledge and experience in the use of SW PDM (Product Data Management) software
- Ability to convey ideas with drawn pictures
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including 3D printing, CNC'ing, sheet metal, and injection molding
- Advanced knowledge of cameras, optical devices, and computer/motherboard assemblies and components is a plus.
- Able to generate high quality output with excellent attention to detail
