The Role

We are looking for a Payroll and HR Specialist with 3-5 years' experience processing payroll and supporting HR functions to join our team! The Incumbent will be knowledgeable in local, provincial, and federal regulations and legislation for Payroll and HR. This role will report directly to the Director, Human Resources and Director, Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Administer bi-weekly payroll for all hourly and salaried employees using Dayforce
  • Post journal entries related to payroll in QuickBooks Desktop
  • Prepare, calculate, remit, and reconcile all payroll source deductions, WSIB, CPP, EI, Income Tax, LTD and EHT
  • Reconcile time sheets between different software
  • Track vacation time, input exceptions & process rate increases
  • Process ROEs with Service Canada and distribution of T4s
  • Ensure compliance with federal and local tax regulations by accurately calculating and withholding income taxes, and any other applicable deductions
  • Participate in external audits of payroll records to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations
  • Liaise with benefits provider on enrollments, changes, terminations, and statement reconciliation
  • Maintain employee data and associated changes for payroll and other uses.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining employee contracts, onboarding packages, and policy administration
  • Enroll & terminate employees in applicable systems and maintain records accordingly
  • Address and resolve employee inquiries and concerns relating to the payroll system
  • Collaborate with Director HR on employee relations matters
  • Member of our JHSC and other health and safety-related tasks
  • Develop relationship with payroll service provider and other vendors
  • Assist with recruitment process including, posting jobs, screening, scheduling interviews, performing reference checks, drafting offers and arranging background checks
  • Maintain the integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of employee files and HRIS data
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in payroll processing and implementing solutions to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by HR/Finance

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience administering payroll and supporting HR functions for a medium-sized business
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • CHRP designation or working towards preferred
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles
  • Knowledge of benefits processes
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation (ESA, Human Rights, WSIB)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
