HVAC-R Estimator
Location: Edmonton, AB
Position Overview:
My client, an established and busy Edmonton based M&E contractor is looking for an experienced HVAC-R Estimator to join their estimating team, focused on commercial and industrial projects. The role involves preparing accurate estimates for HVAC and refrigeration systems and supporting the assessment of existing mechanical infrastructure. A Journeyman Certificate in HVAC-R or Plumbing is required, along with at least 3 years of commercial estimating experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project specifications and drawings to define mechanical scope
- Assess existing HVAC/R systems to identify deficiencies, upgrade needs, and integration challenges
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and calculate material, labor, and equipment costs
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates using AutoBid, Bluebeam, and other tools
- Identify value engineering options to optimize project costs without compromising quality
- Prepare and present complete bid packages including cost breakdowns, scope, and schedule details
- Maintain and enhance a material pricing database to ensure estimating accuracy
- Contribute to internal training and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Journeyman Certificate in HVAC-R or Plumbing
- Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial mechanical estimating
- Strong understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems, installation methods, and mechanical codes
- Proficiency in AutoBid, Bluebeam, Excel, and other estimating software
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and design intent
- Valid driver's license and ability to attend site assessments as required
Assets:
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), including diagnostics and system integration
- Familiarity with applicable BMS codes and standards
- Operations and maintenance background, particularly in identifying performance issues or end-of-life systems
Work Conditions:
This role includes both office-based estimating and on-site system assessments. Travel within the local area is required.
