Job Summary
As the Director of Low-Rise Construction, you will play a pivotal role in leading the operational performance of Cresco's Low-Rise Housing team. Reporting to the Vice President of Development & Construction, this leadership position ensures homes are built on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. Key Responsibilities
Accountabilities - Low-Rise Homebuilding
- Lead, manage, and be accountable for all functional areas of the low-rise homebuilding team.
- Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of new homes while upholding best-in-class safety standards.
- Champion the Cresco Experience Playbook to deliver outstanding customer service.
- Participate in the development and execution of strategic and business plans.
- Achieve results in line with approved budgets and annual business goals.
- Provide regular, informed advice and updates to the Vice President, Development & Construction.
Leadership & Management
- Oversee planning, direction, and evaluation of staff performance across all operational roles.
- Foster a high-performing team culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and results.
- Uphold Cresco's HR policies, including responsibility for hiring, promotions, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
- Invest in career development and talent planning to grow organizational capabilities.
Construction
- Collaborate with the Health & Safety Manager to ensure all construction activities exceed regulatory safety standards and align with Cresco's internal benchmarks.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules to meet home delivery timelines.
- Ensure the visual quality and upkeep of all communities, show homes, and standing inventory reflect Cresco's brand standards.
Budgets, Contracts & Purchasing
- Oversee house budgets, cost tracking, and the implementation of purchasing protocols.
- Maintain strong construction release processes that support even-flow production and margin achievement.
- Engage proactively with trade partners to ensure superior performance and cost control.
- Encourage innovation by staying ahead of industry trends and incorporating progressive materials and methods into the construction program.
Financial Performance
- Assume full profit and loss responsibility for the low-rise portfolio.
- Develop and execute plans to maximize revenue and gross margin while reducing costs.
- Provide ongoing market intelligence to inform business decisions, including analysis of buyer behavior, competitive landscape, and emerging trends.
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned construction professional with a post-secondary education in construction management, business, or a related discipline, and a proven track record of at least 12 years of experience-including a minimum of 7 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multi-functional teams. As the successful candidate, you bring proven experience in the low-rise residential construction industry, including a deep understanding of current regulations, building contracts, drawings, industry terminology, and progressive construction best practices. Known for your ability to lead high-performing teams, you are adept at managing complex budgets, driving strategic plans, and fostering collaboration across departments. Your strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills enable you to navigate challenges with confidence, while your proficiency in analytics, scheduling, and homebuilding systems ensures operational efficiency. You are comfortable balancing time between the office and on-site visits, committed to quality and continuous improvement in every project you lead.
