Responsibilities
- Advise employers on day-to-day workplace issues, including hiring, performance management, termination, accommodations, and workplace policies.
- Represent clients before administrative bodies such as the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO), Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB), and courts at all levels.
- Handle litigation and alternative dispute resolution in employment law matters, including wrongful dismissal, human rights complaints, and occupational health and safety.
- Draft and review employment contracts, workplace policies, and collective agreements.
- Assist in collective bargaining negotiations, grievance arbitrations, and union certification matters.
- Provide compliance advice on Ontario and federal employment statutes, including the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, and OHSA.
- Stay abreast of legislative and regulatory changes affecting employers and contribute to firm publications, seminars, and training sessions.
Requirements
- LL.B. or J.D. and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- 5+ years of post-call experience with a focus on labour and/or employment law.
- Strong advocacy, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Sound judgment and the ability to provide practical, business-oriented advice.
- Comfortable managing client files with appropriate supervision and collaborating within a team.
- Experience representing employers is preferred; experience with union-side work will also be considered.
