Position Summary
Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Clinical Manager is responsible for the 24/7 overall clinical and business operations of the inpatient 7 Surgical Department and Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic. This includes planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating quality, risk, operational efficiency and pandemic response. The Clinical Manager collaborates with internal stakeholders including non-clinical and nursing staff, Department and Program Managers, Clinical and Department Directors, Professional Practice Leaders/Advisors, Medical Director, Physicians, Program learners, other interprofessional Healthcare Team members, and External Partners. The Clinical Manager ensures that the nursing, technicians and clerical staff within the program function within their professional scope of practice as defined by their regulatory body and professional association by perform at an optimal level to meet program and corporate strategic plans. Surgical Flow Coordinator works collaboratively with the corporate flow team and surgical program to oversee the flow of surgical patient including leading quality improvement initiatives related to surgical flow.

What We are Looking For
• Undergraduate degree in a Healthcare related field required
• Master's Degree in Healthcare, Education Business related field preferred
• Regulated Health Professional in good standing with the Regulated Health Professional College and Provincial Professional Association
• 5 - 7 years practical and related clinical experience
• A minimum of 2 year of clinical front-line management and/or equivalent experience
• Experience in an academic health science centre
• Progressive leadership or management experience in a healthcare organization
• Demonstrated ability working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Excellent decision making which reflects sensitivity to financial, operating and human resource constraints
• Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a proven track record of fostering collaborative partnerships
• Committed to excellence in exceptional patient care and continual focus on quality improvement and results driven outcomes
• Demonstrated human resources management skills in a unionized environment
• Highly knowledgeable on SJHH Standards/Policies, MOHLTC Provincial Standards, and Accreditation Canada Standards
• Demonstrated continued education in Leadership, Budgeting, Performance Management, Labour Relations, Coaching, Team Building, Research Skills, Teaching Skills

What Will Grab Our Attention
In fulfilling the mandate of this role, the Manager of 7 Surgical, Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic and Surgical Flow Co-Ordinator will:
• Hires, promotes, disciplines and terminates staff as required, through knowledgeable interpretation and implementation of hospital policies and collective agreements
• Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of direct reports
• Schedules and manages employee relations issues, promoting a teamwork environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently
• Develops, implements and communicates performance measures, employees' goals and objectives, conducts regular performance appraisals of direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
• Supports staff and provides leadership in problem solving, conflict management and decision making by ensuring administrative policies and procedures are followed
• Collaboratively develops and implements new staff orientation programs consistent with SJHH standards and evaluates staff training needs on an ongoing basis
• Manages the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives which are in alignment with established SJHH standards, Accreditation of Canada, National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) and Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards
• Collaboratively ensures the excellence in patient care delivery and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring and risk management
• Initiates and leads change effectively within the programs
• Responsible for risk management; to review, follow through and report on complaints and safety incident reports in a designated time frame
• Coaches staff to ensure that continuous quality improvement initiatives are incorporated into day-to-day activities
• Monitors, manages and analyzes internal and external data to assess performance against established benchmarks and identify opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders for improving services and patient outcomes in accordance with MOHLTC, CNO, and Accreditation Canada standards
• Develops the unit/department's annual operating budget for the utilization of resources
• Manages actual expenditures to ensure remains within approved budget guidelines and identifies and implements strategies to manage unfavorable variances
• Represents the unit/department internally on SJHH committees, as required, and SJHH in the external community at conferences, workshops, etc. and identifies, develops and strengthens community partnerships by actively participating in committees/task groups etc., both internally & externally
• Fosters an environment that facilitates the use of evidence-based practices, ongoing professional development and interdisciplinary care, research and clinical evaluation
• Maintains membership in professional and regulatory organizations as related to area of expertise and knowledge
• Maintains knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory standards including RHPA and relevant Regulated Health Professional College
• Promotes collaboration with Educational Partners through joint appointments and the provision of educational opportunities for learners
• Supports and facilitates research opportunities for staff within the clinical program
