Our challenge

We are seeking a hands-on, highly skilled, and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Lead PHP Engineer. As a key member of our engineering team, candidate will play a crucial role in the development. As the successful candidate will partner with key business stakeholders, understand the business drivers, and focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data processing pipelines to support our organization's data needs and advance our capabilities pertaining to data engineering.

Additional Information

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Halifax is CAD $110k - CAD $115K/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

• Design and architect PHP-based applications and services, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze project requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Lead the development and implementation of software solutions using PHP 8.x frameworks (e.g., Laravel 10.x, CodeIgniter 4.x).
• Conduct code reviews and provide guidance to developers on best practices and design patterns.
• Define and maintain coding standards, documentation, and architectural guidelines.
• Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending improvements and innovations.
• Mentor and train development teams to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and data protection regulations.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in PHP development, with at least 3 years in an architectural role.
• Proficiency in PHP frameworks (e.g., Laravel, CodeIgniter) and experience with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery).
• Strong understanding of database management systems (e.g., MySQL) and API development (RESTful services).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
