The Role

The successful candidate will work from our Nova Scotia office and will lead the safety function for Marco's projects in the Maritimes, including safety at the construction project sites. The Safety Advisor will report to the Director of Safety.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and customer legislation and standards within Canada's Maritimes.
  • Promote and facilitate a strong corporate safety culture among employees and subcontractors, both onsite and in the office.
  • Implement, enforce, and continuously improve corporate and site-specific health and safety policies, programs, and priorities.
  • Conduct and document formal and informal inspections, comprehensive hazard assessments, and equipment checks.
  • Conduct safety orientations for new employees and coordinate required safety training; maintain accurate training records.
  • Learn and integrate client HSE policies while monitoring and supporting corporate HSE performance.
  • Compile, update, and report safety statistics, including information for pre-qualification submissions.
  • Support managers, supervisors, and health & safety coordinators in achieving their safety objectives.
  • Develop and oversee prevention programs on construction sites, including subcontractor safety plans and activities.
  • Participate in incident investigations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

The Requirements

  • Over 5 years' experience in a safety role in commercial construction or a similar industry
  • College diploma in environmental health and safety or sufficient studies in health, safety and prevention
  • Member of a recognized professional association in occupational health and safety or working toward such designation as CRSP and/or CHSC would be considered an asset
  • Regular travel to job sites in the Maritimes and potential travel to all locations where Marco operates
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
