Position Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and, Chief Nursing and Allied Health Professional Executive, the Director, Critical Care & Respiratory Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership to a multi-site Respiratory and Critical Care program. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred, and evidenced-based care, while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, teaching and research. The Clinical Director is accountable for service delivery, patient outcomes, staff engagement, quality improvement, resource planning and utilization and alignment with hospital strategic priorities.

The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of progressive professional experience in a complex multi-site acute care environment, demonstrating leadership experience in building relationships, fostering collaboration, leading change and exploring innovative approaches to care delivery that focuses on improving the patient experience. In addition to a Master s Degree, the candidate will ideally bring leadership experience with a successful track record in Critical Care service.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to ensure systems are in place to enable optimal clinical decision-making and patient care within the individual programs and across programs and hospitals.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Directors, Program Business Managers and other team members to create a vision for the program that is consistent with the Corporate Mission, Vision and Strategic priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical standards, accreditation, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), clinical outcomes, and service metrics
  • Optimize patient flow, bed utilization, and transition of care processes
  • Manage operating and capital budgets for critical care units and Respiratory Services
  • Lead business case development for service enhancements, equipment, or technology
  • Create an environment and culture that will ensure patient and staff safety, and individual accountability
  • Support medical and nursing education, training, and clinical competency programs
  • Partner with academic and SHNRI on quality and innovation projects
  • Demonstrate ability to support and embrace the philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a clinical discipline and/ or health-related discipline, CHE preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressive professional leadership experience in a complex acute care environment.
  • Critical Care nursing experience an asset.
  • Proven management skills, including quality improvement, change management, evaluation, planning and utilization management skills, risk and patient safety.
  • Demonstrated track record implementing complex change initiatives.
  • Evidence of innovative leadership skills and proven ability to foster a collaborative team approach to decision making.
  • Thorough understanding of LEAN management principles and benchmarking principles and practices.
  • Ability to foster positive, respectful internal and external relationships/partnerships.
