Your Position & How You Will Contribute:
We are looking for the Director - Project Management. Reporting to the COO, this new role will be responsible for providing project management leadership to our growing outside plant program, and to establish a fully integrated PMO within our business. The Director will manage the evolution of effective tools, processes, and people to support telMAX's aggressive business plans.
The Director will be responsible for the on-time delivery of our aggressive build program within Ontario. They will lead our project planning, to enhance our capabilities to deliver multiple concurrent projects to support our customer growth, to drive innovation and productivity within our business, to elevate the way we plan and deliver projects, and to help make efficient use of our financial and people assets. The Director will have a strong technical background in planning and deploying projects to achieve organizational priorities, but also bring a longer-term perspective, and demonstrates superior prioritization and communication skills.
The Director will establish the project management office (PMO) and to support to the outside plant team, as well as other parts of the organization. The Director will ensure that projects are effectively planned from a financial and timing perspective, so that they can be delivered on time and within budget, to meet our demanding business requirements.
This role is responsible for planning and project managing telMAX's significant and growing projects which are building extensive fibre optic infrastructure to support our aggressive growth plan. This role is based at the telMAX head office in Markham.
Responsibilities:
- Leads planning and scheduling for concurrent FTTH deployments, aligned with growth and service activation goals.
- Defines and standardizes project management systems and processes within the business, by creating new or improving current processes
- Develops the appropriate PMO tools and resources to adaptably manage a portfolio of civil construction projects with predictable consistency, efficiency, and success
- Creates, manages, and communicates the timing and costing of complex build programs within our service areas, including plans for future areas
- Collaborates effectively with the executive team, and Engineering, Construction and Finance teams, to review, optimize, and communicate project plans and priorities
- Ensures financial guidance is maintained in plans, including attainment of unit cost KPI's
- Recruits, mentors, and develops a high-performing team of project managers, ensuring the use of professional project management processes
- Establishes the PMO's purpose, scope, and authority within the organization.

Experience:
- +8 years in project management roles, preferably in telecom, utilities, or infrastructure
- Familiar with project controls, cost optimization, and agile/hybrid methods
- Strong technical leadership with cross-functional program delivery, including financial leadership
- Proven success in large-scale construction projects
- Experience building or scaling PMOs in start-up or growth environments
- Progressive experience in project management and business roles
- Experience managing and developing technical teams
- Strong skills in project delivery, including defining business and technical requirements, evaluation, planning, implementation, and management of projects
- Strategic planning experience including cost, risk, benefit, and opportunity analysis
- Experience within a utilities or telecom environment would be beneficial
Education:
- University degree in Engineering or other applied science or other relevant discipline
- PMP certification required, relevant certifications in areas such as project management, change management
