English Teaching Assistant in South Korea

This is a Working Holiday Visa Program for Canadians who qualify for the position as per below.

Position Overview

As an English Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Collaborate with Korean teachers to enhance English language education.
  • Lead engaging lessons with a focus on conversational English.
  • Act as a cultural ambassador, fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Position Overview

English Teaching Assistant positions are available throughout South Korea according to Provincial and Metropolitan Offices of Education needs.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be eligible under International Experience Canada ( see government requirements )
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university in one of the eligible countries.
  • Have completed education (from 7th grade through university) in English in an eligible country.
  • Possess either:

A teaching license/certificate, B.Ed., M.Ed., or a degree in Education-related fields;

OR

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) / TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) / CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) certificate (minimum 100 hours) for non-education majors

  • Be in good mental and physical health and demonstrate adaptability to Korean culture.

Compensation and Benefits

Financial Benefits:

  • Monthly Salary: Competitive based on qualifications and experience (from 2,100,000 to 3,000,000 KRW per month = approx. 2,000 to 3,000 CAD
  • Settlement Allowance: 300,000 KRW (one-time payment) = approx. 300 CAD
  • Entrance Allowance: 1,800,000 KRW (varies by location) = approx. 1,800 CAD
  • Contract Completion Bonus: Up to 1,800,000 KRW at the end of the contract = approx. 1,800 CAD
  • Renewal Bonus: Up to 2,000,000 KRW for contract extensions = approx. 2,000 CAD

Housing:

  • Furnished accommodations provided (size and location vary by region).
  • Utilities and maintenance costs are the teacher's responsibility.

Healthcare:

  • 50% of national medical insurance premiums covered by your employer.

  • Severance Pay: Equivalent to one month's salary upon successful contract completion.
