POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Stakeholder Advisor, reporting to the Director, Strategy & Innovation, will be responsible for supporting major strategic stakeholder relations project and initiatives, as well as provide support to communications and government relations function within the department and across the organization. The position is responsible for developing, establishing, and maintaining relationships with ESA's external stakeholders and other safety partners to promote ESA as a part of an articulated stakeholder strategy.
The Stakeholder Advisor will also manage, support, and plan for all aspects of ESA's Advisory Councils including meeting cycle management and agenda development, minutes and materials tracking/distribution, liaison with council Chairs and members, and working closely with other business units. They will also provide support for updating terms of reference, as required; perform periodic audits and recommendations on process, procedures and efficiencies of councils, while supporting stakeholder projects and stakeholder positions, including publications and reporting tools; support and promote ESA's corporate goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the development and fulfilment of departmental strategy and support of ESA corporate strategy, goals, and business plan.
- Support major strategic stakeholder relations projects and initiatives, as well as provide support to communications and government relations functions within the department and across the organization. Develop, establish, and maintain key strategic relationships with ESA's external stakeholders and other safety partners to promote ESA.
- Manage, support, and planning for ESA's Advisory Councils including meeting cycle management and agenda development, minutes and materials tracking and distribution, liaison with council Chairs and members, and working closely with other business units. Provide support for updating terms of reference, as required; perform periodic audits and recommendations on process, procedures and efficiencies of councils.
- Provide advice and assistance in a functional capacity within the company on matters of ongoing market and stakeholder mapping and research studies, communications and evaluation, strategic analysis of new technologies and trends in the stakeholder and regulatory environment. Identify best industry practices related to electrical safety programs, and identifying new models and channels for stakeholder engagement.
- Support stakeholder projects and stakeholder positions, including communications, publications and reporting tools; support and promote ESA's corporate goals.
- Direct and work with external agencies, as required. Supervise staff, which involves planning, organizing, assigning, and checking their work.
- Research, write, edit and produce communication materials for multiple projects and varied audiences, including newsletters, Annual Report, Business Plan, Board documents, website, corporate presentations and speeches, briefing notes, and other materials as required.
- Make presentations internally to others across ESA and externally to stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in communications studies, Public Affairs, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in a Stakeholder Advisor type role.
- Requires a strong background of multi-stakeholder communications experience with particular emphasis in the field of public affairs.
- Requires program and project management, multi-tasking and negotiating skills to provide effective consultation and support to ESA's legislative and regulatory agenda.
- Requires experience to understand relevant issues related to electrical safety, policy development, stakeholder relations, public administration, risk and issues management.
- Requires experience in at a senior communications or public affairs level.
- Requires demonstrated listening and negotiating skills to support ESA's strategic plan and to develop consensus among diverse stakeholders and the public on regulatory initiatives and the ability to work effectively with people inside and outside the organization to achieve the required results.

Works Closely with: Communications & Strategy Teams and others within the Regulatory Centre of Excellence.
