Position Overview:

They are looking for a Proposal Writer, with marketing and strategic pursuit expertise, an excellent communicator and writer, and a creative thinker who is keen to grow their business in Western Canada. Reporting to the firm's Principals, the successful candidate will lead their pursuit process and manage multiple concurrent strategic proposal writing and marketing initiatives.

This position reports directly to the partners and manages a marketing/proposal assistant.

About the Role:

To support their efforts in business development, the Proposal Writer will create, write and design the firm's marketing material and proposals that effectively communicate who they are and the advantages their service offers to prospective clients and projects.

The Proposal Writer will assist the team in the preparation of proposal responses associated with new business development opportunities and will work closely with the firm's Principles and subject matter experts to create customized, comprehensive responses to business bids.

Areas of Accountability:

Proposal Development 70%

  • Attend weekly marketing sessions with the Partners and marketing team
  • Collaborate with staff to prepare internal go-no-go evaluations for potential pursuits
  • Liaise with subconsultants and obtain the information required for the proposals
  • Liaise with potential partners and the marketing assistant to coordinate roles and responsibilities of each party
  • Identify key site visits and arrange attendance by a partner or other employee, or yourself as required
  • Read request for proposal documents to thoroughly understand and share proposal requirements with the team.
  • Prepare technical writing for all marketing material such as project sheets, firm profiles, staff bios, and awards submissions, including the coordination and preparation of fee proposal submissions for a response to RFPs / RFQs.
  • Graphic layout proposals, awards, brochures, and other marketing content
  • Review and ensure the final proposal meets leadership's expectations and a high standard of quality.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining existing proposal tools - templates, graphics, experience tables etc.
  • Assist in developing new presentation templates and graphics
  • Work collaboratively with the partners and marketing support

General Marketing Support 30%

  • Provide support to senior management and contribute to evolving the marketing and business development strategy, including responsibility to monitor and identify project opportunities that align with the firm's business development objectives.
  • Provide leadership in editing content for marketing and business development. This may also include support to their project teams for content creation and editing of design reports as required
  • Lead and manage general marketing activities and resources, including company website and social media channels
  • Work with marketing support and other staff to develop social media content
  • Source, analyze and track potential opportunities in the marketplaces
  • Lead the creation and production of award submissions
  • Working with the Principals, lead the creation and production of material for presentations and proposal interviews
  • Organize photoshoots for exciting architectural projects
  • Strategize on award and publication submissions and assist in developing content
  • Coordinate the process for marketing information management including update of databases for projects, clients & collaborators, and contribution to style guides and templates.
  • Generate and track proposal success and deliver reports
  • Attend conferences or key social events and liaise with clients
  • Manage Company's social media channels including Instagram and LinkedIn

Requirements:

  • At least 4 years of experience as a Proposal Writer with an architectural, engineering, or construction firm.
  • A bachelor's degree in Writing, Journalism, Communications or a related field
  • A demonstrated understanding of market sectors and client relations
  • Extensive experience in proposal preparation and management: highly skilled in content structure and graphic layout.
  • Must be an expert at InDesign and have a high level of proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and researching skills.
  • A high degree of attention to detail (accuracy, proofreading, spelling, grammar, consistency).
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience handling multiple priorities and competing deadlines simultaneously.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Desire to network, source new work opportunities, and develop new client relationships is an asset.
