PROCESS ENGINEER

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Process and Technology, we are seeking a full-time Process Engineer specializing in gas processing to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. The Process Engineer will provide process engineering expertise to support the design and optimization of the gas processing infrastructure which forms part of the lithium facility which will process lithium from the Leduc reservoir brine. This includes two phase separation, sour gas handling, and acid gas compression and injection.

Mandate:

  • Deliver a safe and highly optimized gas processing facility design.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, review and execution of process engineering deliverables throughout the facility across all engineering stages, including Feasibility and Process Studies, Conceptual Design, DBM Development, FEED and Detailed Engineering Design.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on sour gas separation and processing, acid gas compression, acid gas injection and co-injection, and gas sweetening units.
  • Support the design, review, and execution of the gas processing infrastructure Develop and validate process simulations and modeling for gas processing facilities.
  • Author and review, critical design documents, including material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, shutdown keys, control narratives and Process Engineering reports in support of gas processing infrastructure as well as other area of the facility as required.
  • Verify line sizing, PSV sizing, and the preparation of equipment process data sheets.
  • Oversee and participate in P&ID / PHA (HAZOP) reviews and ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards (API, ASME, ISO).
  • Collaborate with other technical disciplines, vendors, and stakeholders to progress deliverables and address complex engineering challenges.
  • Offer technical support during facility commissioning, start-up, and operational troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Should the candidate possess expertise in pipeline design and evaluation, additional responsibilities would include:
  • Development of pipeline process simulations using industry-standard software.
  • Development and review of steady-state and transient pipeline hydraulic analysis/ studies for new and existing installations while generating and documenting hydraulic analysis inputs, assumptions, limitations, results, and subsequent study reports.

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering with 10 to 15 years of process engineering experience.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA.
  • Experience in both EPC and Owner/Operator role preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of sweet and sour gas facility design, field facilities, well sites, gathering systems, compression, and grassroots gas processing plants.
  • Expertise in acid gas injection (coinjection), dehydration, and gas sweetening processes.
  • Strong understanding of process safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance within gas processing.
  • Proficiency with HYSYS and other Process Engineering simulation software, as well as industry engineering codes.
  • Exceptional technical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Should the candidate possess expertise in pipeline design and evaluation, additional experience of value would include
  • Strong knowledge of pipeline and piping hydraulics, both steady state and transient including a thorough understanding of scenarios such as two phase flow, surge, water hammer, slugging, pump start-up, shutdown, and trip, among others would be considered an asset.
  • Extensive working experience with hydraulic software (DNV Synergi Pipeline Simulator), and AFT Suite (Fathom, Arrow, and Impulse). Additional experience with other comparable hydraulic software is considered an asset.
  • Previous working experience with large (by length, size, and/or network complexity) pipelines including ESD systems and hydraulic systems is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of single and multiphase hydraulic fundamentals and line sizing practices is preferred.
