The Opportunity:
To support and coordinate the continued development and maintenance of food safety and quality programs for the Atwood Dairy in accordance with applicable standards, while ensuring that goals and targets for Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety are met or exceeded.
The selected candidate will perform the role of a Quality Assurance Coordinator (Entry) working in our Atwood, Ontario, production facility. This role will support the Senior Quality Assurance Coordinator in the day to day management of the Quality program for our Atwood facility.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Food Safety program owner, providing input and recommendations to the operations team on quality and food safety issues
- Participate, in conjunction with the Production and Quality Managers, in the development, maintenance, administration and improvement of plant programs and systems where required, to ensure company and customer standards for quality and food safety are met
- Provide administrative support for the Atwood Dairy including the maintenance of production and packaging data systems, administration of SAP functions, and tracking and preparation of invoices for further processing
- Collect and verify all HACCP related documents and provide feedback to Manager and employees with respect to record deviations
- Backup / support of the site SQF Practitioner
- Backup liaison for plant with respect to CFIA personnel, regulatory agencies and third party auditors
- Perform basic laboratory work such as micro plating and compositional analysis
- Conduct daily and weekly environmental swabbing of food and non-food contact surfaces and maintain environmental monitoring program
- Coordinate and prepare Chain of Custody Records for third party laboratory testing
- Issue Certificate of Analysis for customers, as required
- Perform quality checks while playing an active role in supporting continuous improvement and promoting quality initiatives
- Perform random net weight checks and verify correct best before dates, correct packaging, packaging integrity and inspection of products
- Collect water, brine and finished product samples for internal and external testing (Chemical & Micro; Retain & Shelf life)
- Work with Production Manager to ensure all the appropriate testing is completed and summarized for use
- Support the Senior Quality Assurance Coordinator in regulatory/3rd party audits and developing corrective actions plans based on findings with the Production Manager and Quality Manager
- Participate in and provide training for plant personnel as it relates to HACCP, SQF, GMP and other FSEP requirements as required
- Participate in the annual review and assessment of HACCP plans, maintaining communication with QA Manager and HACCP Coordinator
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards immediately to the Production Manager and work in a safe manner at all times, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment
Basic Job Requirements:
- Strong continuous improvement focus and mindset with a high level of detail orientation
- Ability to support in SQF / third party audits and maintain a high level of credibility as a food safety resource
- Ability to understand and communicate the details of Food Safety regulations and standards
- Strong initiative and timely execution of tasks, and ability to ensure customer satisfaction is not compromised
- Ability to strictly adhere to Quality, HACCP, GMP and other related standards and procedures
- Intermediate skills with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); SAP experience preferred
Education & Experience Required:
- Minimum of two years' experience within the dairy industry or food related manufacturing environment
- Previous experience in a quality support role performing laboratory testing
- Minimum completion of a high school diploma; completion of a post-secondary degree/program in quality assurance or Food Science or a related area preferred
- Previous training and experience in HACCP and SQF would be an asset
