Job Summary

The Supervisor, Signals and Communications Call Desk is responsible for supporting the Walker Signals and Communications (S&C) staff as well as all other Walker Yard Operations.

Main Responsibilities

Supervise, lead, guide and direct all Walker Yard S&C personnel

Handle Engineering operations as outlined in CN's operating plan, including compliance with safe work procedures, Transport Canada (TC) guidelines, and CN policies and procedures

Lead people with clear direction and goals while providing coaching and guidance to employees through regular monitoring of employee performance

Apply collective agreements and company policies when carrying out duties, including overseeing and coaching employees, conducting investigations, recommending corrective action, and responding to grievances

Oversee budgets and workforce productivity within CN and departmental policy

Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with appropriate stakeholders to resolve cause and future prevention

Participate in investigations when necessary

Facilitate the onboarding of new S&C apprentices as well as complete evaluations

Provide field and technical support to install and maintain signal and crossing warning functions within the railway system

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments with various weather conditions with irregular shift work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The role is required to be on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents and work overtime hours as necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress as well as interface with senior management. The role requires minimal travel (10%) within Canada for company business, at times without advance notice.

Requirements
Experience

Signal Technician, Coordinator, Testman, Maintainer or Mechanic

Between 2 to 5 years of experience as a Signal Technician, Coordinator, Testman, Maintainer, or Mechanic

o Experience programming logic controllers using Boolean or ladder logic

Education/Certification/Designation

High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)

Valid Driver's License

Bachelors' Degree in Computer, Electrical, Electronic, Systems Engineering or Engineering Technology

Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
