Who we need:
Yorkville University is hiring a new Dean of Management in BC. Reporting to the British Columbia Vice President Academic and Campus Principal, the Dean of Management is responsible for providing academic and professional leadership for planning, quality assurance, academic operations, and the effective delivery of the programs in Management.
The Dean is a member of university-wide governance, national, and provincial bodies as applicable; chairs committee(s), leads faculty planning and development to ensure continuing program quality, as well as ensuring the integrity and reputation of the programs within industry and academic circles.
This position oversees faculty and student experience; reviews faculty according to the University's policies; and, with the VPA/Principal, is responsible for creating and maintaining a robust academic community that encourages professional development, research and scholarly activity, and participation in university initiatives. The Dean strives to support students' academic achievement and successful outcomes and has central responsibility for academic governance of the programs which they lead, including developing and implementing policy on Program Advisory Committees and Curriculum Committees as applicable. The Dean works to promote and maintain a working environment animated by the University's core values and Signature Learning Outcomes.
What you will do:
As a senior leader and member of campus leadership teams, consistently animate, promote, and model the University's core values and Signature Learning Outcomes.
Provide academic program leadership and planning in the areas of business and management, to advance the University's academic goals and meet the needs of students.
Ensure that the program's Admissions, Curriculum, and Faculty hiring committees are functioning effectively and consistent with Yorkville University policies and best practices.
Recommend the hiring of all faculty based on term rollouts and programs academic plans.
Participate in the development and launch of new academic programs from specializations to degrees.
Develop and maintain Program Advisory Committees consistent with Yorkville University policies.
Model and promote excellence in teaching, scholarship and professional practice.
Assure adherence to all academic policies and appeals procedures.
Participate in the production and updating of essential program materials.
Collaborate with cross-functional departments including Teaching and Learning, Student Experience, Student Recruitment, and Marketing and Communications.
Oversee the budgeting, resource allocation, and financial management of their academic programs
Address student complaints, problems, and appeals, applying University policy as appropriate.
Participate in governance and management bodies/committees.
Perform other duties as required to ensure academic and professional standards and effective academic program administration.
Collaborate closely with Program Chairs and Academic Leads to ensure that students' needs are at the center of decision making.
Represent their programs to the employer community and professional bodies.
As a senior academic leader, promote and model the University's core values, Signature Learning Outcomes, as well as the distinctive capabilities and positive culture that enact those values.
Teach one (1) course per year. Additional teaching requires VPA agreement.
Maintain scholarly competence and professional currency in one or more of the disciplines covered by the academic programs under their aegis.
What you bring:
Earned doctorate from a recognized/accredited institution in a related field.
Currently licensed in a relevant profession, as applicable.
A record of peer-reviewed scholarly activity.
High personal integrity and an exceptional work ethic and commitment to the University' core values and strategic goals.
Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong focus on students with emphasis on retention, academic success, and wellbeing.
At least 7 years' experience teaching on campus and online at the postsecondary level.
At least 3 years' administrative experience, with increasing responsibilities, in a post-secondary environment (e.g. program development, program accreditation, program review, quality assurance practices, student and faculty policies, faculty hiring).
