Job Purpose:

The Medical Head of Specialty Care is a senior leadership role within the Medical Division and Canadian organization that leads a therapeutically aligned Medical Affairs Team to develop and implement patient focused medical
strategies.

The effective development and implementation of the medical strategies contributes to the overall enterprise plan, working in partnership with commercial and development colleagues, to ensure the optimal launch, appropriate use and timely access to Specialty Care medicines.

Details (Your Responsibilities):

  • Accountable for the development, implementation and monitoring of the therapy aligned Specialty Care Medical Affairs strategic plans which includes the development of focused External Engagement Plans across Canada.
  • Ensure healthcare practitioners have the correct information to allow evidence-based use of GSK products, though, for example educational programs and scientific / external engagement activities, and to ensure these are in line with GSK standards and values and are therefore in the patients' best interest.
  • Represent Canada on global leadership team to ensureinclusion of Canadian position in global plans for Specialty portfolio.
  • Collaborates and works cross-functionally with Commercial Leadership Team partners to identify external expert and patient needs and develop innovative strategies and solutions that contribute to the optimal launch of new products and appropriate optimal patient use of already launched GSK medicines.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Development teams and Global Medical Affairs to ensure clinical trial plans (including feasibility, site initiation and recruitment), evidence planning, data generation are consistent and aligned to optimize brand strategies.
  • Oversees development of GSK supported and investigator-initiated studies.
  • Liaises with Regulatory Affairs group to ensure filing strategies and labeling of products leads to sustainable and optimal labeling of GSK products in Canada.
  • Represents GSK Medical Canada Specialty Care with external bodies, including physician and patient organizations.
  • Provides expertise on GSK competitor products, inputting into commercial strategy and marketing plans, providing technical accuracy, fair and balanced information and conformance prevailing legislation, regulations, and internal SOP's.
  • Identifies and assists in management of issues regarding compliance with governance and risk management practices.
  • Contribute to patient safety by reporting, in a timely manner, all adverse events identified during the interactions with customers in accordance with internal policies and training, including any follow up information received.
  • Member of the Medical Division leadership team.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Master's Degree with industry experience is required.
  • Some traveling will be required for this role.
  • 10+ years in related field/function with progressively senior positions e.g. leading a function/large group of people in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical industry with specific experience leading a Medical Affairs Team with progressively more senior positions and responsibility.
  • Experience and understanding of the drug development, regulatory and commercialization process, including clinical trial development, is critical to the role.
  • Experience with medical governance processes is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or Medical Degree is a strong asset.
