These positions are casual/on-call for short term assignments.

You must be available at least 3 days per week.

Assignments are in schools located across the TDSB.

The Sign Language Interpreter is responsible for facilitating communication between Deaf or hard of hearing and hearing people. Working in partnership with teachers of Deaf and hearing in all subject areas for the purpose of providing equal accessibility to information using ASL (American Sign Language).

Rate of pay:

  • $37.44 per hour
  • Effective September 1, 2023
  • 3.8% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates

Schedule: up to 6 hours per day between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm (based on operational requirements)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three year Community College Diploma (English ASL Diploma) plus two years experience working with Deaf persons of all ages in an educational setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Fluent use of ASL or English Based Signing (e.g. PSE) with students with a wide range of academic abilities
  • Use of appropriate vocabulary in both ASL and English
  • Vocalize accurately using appropriate English speech and intention of message as conveyed in the sign message and fingerspell with clarity
  • High level of facilitating between hearing and deaf persons
  • Strong knowledge of Deaf/hard of hearing culture
