Clean Harbors in Guelph, ON Branch is looking for a Wastewater Treatment Operator to join their safety-conscious team. The Wastewater Treatment Operator is working within a defined shift rotation, provides operations and maintenance of water and wastewater systems using safe operating procedures. Keeps facilities in compliance with provincial and federal regulating agencies while protecting the public and Environment.

  • Collects Water and Wastewater samples by following proper procedures.
  • Repairs and maintains PVC and Steel piping within best practices.
  • Performs accurate manual calculations of flow rates, pumping times, chemical pump drawdowns, etc. as required.
  • Performs routine lab process tests to optimize both chemical and other treatment processes throughout the plant.
  • Accurately records data readings on operations log sheets and computer spread sheets and assists supervisors with the interpretation of performance data to adjust process control applications.
  • Controls the operation, monitoring, and inspection of process equipment within plants including pumps and motors, compressors, screens, forklifts, membranes, chemical pumps, and associated equipment. Ensures process operations are continuously monitored for performance within specifications.
  • Monitors and records onto daily log sheets unit process metering devices via gauges, computer process control systems, etc. on an ongoing basis. Coordinates process control adjustments in conjunction with the other operators on shift.
  • Maintains data for required reports for internal regulatory agencies and is accessible for all stakeholders.
  • Trouble shoots operational issues in Water and Wastewater Treatment plants: includes operational, chemical, mechanical, instrumentation and primary logic control (PLC) issues.
  • Maintain and stay up to date on changes to best practices, legislation, policies and procedures within the water and wastewater industry.
  • Maintain all certifications in good standing; notify supervisor when changes occur or as requested.
  • All other duties as required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Post secondary certification in Waste Water Treatment program preferred.
  • Valid G License and Reliable Transportation.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders such as customers, coworkers, regulatory agents, and others as required.
  • Proven ability to identify issues and bring to full resolution.

  • Proven ability to follow defined policies, standards and procedures.

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently in the English language.

  • Proven ability to gather and analyze information to determine a solution.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in treatment operations.
  • Basic computer skills with ability to use MS Office software.
  • Experience in a related industry such as water, wastewater, plumbing, mechanical, biology, and/or chemical.
