Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society (KAFS) was established in 1972 and is a non-profit organization with a status free open-door policy. KAFS is dedicated to empowering the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities of Kamloops and surrounding areas. KAFS provides culturally appropriate programs and inclusive services that meet the needs of urban Indigenous people to become healthier, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Mini Storage Manager, the Mini Storage Support Worker is responsible for supporting clients with using the Mini Storage facility for storage, hygiene, and laundry services. This role will ensure a safe and secure environment through the enforcement of safety measures and policies, while also providing crucial support to clients by connecting them with relevant resources. Daily responsibilities include client interaction and support, facility maintenance, and dispute mediation.
A day in the life- roles and responsibilities:
•Facilitate the intake process by administering a comprehensive questionnaire to clients, providing a designated storage bin for them to fill with approved belongings, and sanitizing the storage bin before integrating it into the facility storage.
•Efficiently oversee the storage facility for clients' belongings, responding to access requests by consulting the computer tracking sheet, implementing cleaning protocols upon the return of the bin, and transporting the bin back to its designated storage location.
•Complete laundry services for items received by clients while following safety protocols.
•Ensure a safe and secure environment by enforcing safety measures and policies.
•Provide support to clients, referring them to relevant agencies and resources, including social services, healthcare, and housing.
•Conduct routine perimeter checks and maintain cleanliness and organization within the facility.
•Maintain accurate client records and track client progress for reporting requirements.
•Manage day-to-day facility operations, including cleaning and administrative tasks.
•Mediate disputes, address behavioral issues, and enforce facility rules.
•Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community organizations to provide comprehensive support.
•Attend meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices.
•Show cultural sensitivity to diverse residents' backgrounds and needs.
•Engage with the local community to build support and resources.
•Practice self-care to manage job-related emotional and physical challenges.
•Performs other duties as reasonably assigned or required.
Requirements - what you bring to KAFS:
•A member of the Lived Experience community.
•Minimum 2 years working with the homeless population.
•Understanding of mental health and complex health issues.
•Training in dealing with hostile interactions and de-escalating difficult situations.
•Occupational First Aid Level 1, or willing to attend training.

Wage: $20/hour
