Your opportunity: As the Fire Prevention Officer, you will ensure the compliance of our fire prevention and protection program advising on requirements for new construction and renovation projects, and continually reviewing current fire and life safety systems and procedures recommending preventative or alternative life safety measures and corrective action, evaluating risk factors and inspecting buildings to determine fire prevention requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting routine building inspections for fire and life safety issues
  • Assessing and recommending corrective action to resolve code violations
  • Implementing complex and technical emergency fire safety plans
  • Implementing temporary protective alternatives to provide for fire safety during planned and unplanned system isolations and shutdowns
  • Analyzing and recommending corrective actions and procedural changes following fire occurrences
  • Inspecting the construction and installation of fire and life safety equipment and systems
  • Advising project managers and contractors on fire prevention requirements in relation to changes to construction specification for new building and renovation projects

Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years related experience in all areas of fire safety coupled with a demonstrated knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation, codes, standards, and procedures
  • A strong working knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code, NFPA Standards, CAN/ULC Standards, Ontario Building Code and other applicable statutes and regulations and their applications is required
