Your opportunity: Student Housing and Residence Life (SHRL) is a growing department within Student Affairs at UTM and we are looking for a thoughtful, focused Student Housing and Residence Life leader to be our Supervisor, Residence Operations. If you thrive knowing you are guiding a team of professionals fully committed to supporting the student experience at the highest level through areas such as Front Desk Operations, residence operations and facilities management then this may be your next role. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Residence Administration and Operations, the Supervisor Residence Operations will oversee the operations and administration professional staff in their work creating a positive and supportive experience for our students and guests. With a commitment to a high level of customer service, working with others to solve problems and provide solutions and a high value on teamwork, you will provide direction and leadership. As one with focus on details, you understand the impact of operations within Student Housing and Residence Life. You value attention to detail, collaboration for implementing the best solutions and following procedural standards. You are someone who keeps pace with best practices, provincial standards and the most up-to-date systems such as StarRez for the purpose of reviewing and evaluating the annual Student Housing life cycle from an operations point of view. At times you will be required to apply established standards when responding to emergencies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing and revising processes that support administrative activities and objectives
  • Developing and implementing new programs and initiatives independently
  • Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Advising management on space allocation and the efficient utilization of physical resources
  • Preparing and delivering trend analyses and projections to management for financial planning
  • Gathering information in preparation for budget planning
  • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five (5) years related experience, with at least three (3) years experience working in a post-secondary residence environment or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience supervising appointed staff and/or casual staff
  • Experience with facilities management including managing space issues
  • Experience with StarRez and Microsoft Office
  • Minimum two (2) years customer service program supervision and planning
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, create efficient administrative processes and build collaborative working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and contracts to ensure service standards
  • Knowledge of the University procurement policy and facility systems (i.e. keycard systems, maintenance database)
  • Intermediate spreadsheet skills required
  • Knowledge of the University's procedures as the relate to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FIPPA) and management of confidential student information
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to effectively manage a complex set of competing priorities
