Your opportunity: Under the general direction of the Manager, Electrical Systems, the Electrical Engineer-In-Training (EIT) supports electrical infrastructure projects by: tracking project data and ensuring the work is progressing according to schedule and in keeping with the university internal processes; reviewing questions/ comments from the project teams and drafting a response for review and approval; preparing reports on a periodic basis to track project status with respect to scope and schedule, and identifying and reporting any potential delays that may be incurred due to unforeseen field conditions. Under close supervision and direction of the Electrical Systems Engineer, the EIT assists in the preparation of bid documents in the tendering process by putting together scopes of work, issuing addenda, taking bidders on site visits, and reviewing and analyzingbid submissions. In addition, the EIT issues electrical shutdown notices; carries out surveys on building electrical systems, update electrical drawings for final review and signoff, and maintain records of maintenance and commissioning activities; and provides access to and escorts non-utility staff and contractors to electrical substations and electrical rooms once approved by the Electrical Systems Engineer.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing preliminary drawings for planning analysis and project planning
  • Reviewing drawings, contract documents and site conditions to capture updates and changes to existing site/building conditions in AutoCAD
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Creating and editing project documents
  • Providing detailed project information to relevant stakeholders
  • Writing letters of intent to successful bidders
  • Paying close attention to occupational safety precautions

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and tracking towards licensure or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of working experience (including coop/internship) in electrical engineering assisting with the managementof electrical projects.
  • Superior computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications (e.g. Access) in order to generate reports andanalysis.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and able to prepare and edit electrical drawings.
  • Knowledge of project management theory.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy when compiling/reporting data and carrying outanalyses.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and respond to frequently changing priorities
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Building Code, Workplace Electrical Safety Standard (CSA-Z462), Health & Safety regulations and legislation, including OHSA, WHMIS.
  • Physical ability to perform on-site surveys across the downtown St. George campus, including climbing a ladder.
