Spaces & Experiences develops and supports high-quality innovation space, housing for faculty and students, food service locations (retail and residential) and ancillary retail space to serve the needs of the University of Toronto community and aims to create exceptional environments for learning and life-long memories while generating a sustainable source of revenue for the University by leveraging its real estate assets. The Trademark Licensing Program (TML) is housed within the S&E portfolio and ensures that the University and its departments are engaging in ethical procurement of merchandise and that branded merchandise is accurately representative of the University's image. TML also works to develop new merchandise and brand partnerships to help enrich campus life and the student experience by fostering a sense of belonging and pride at U of T and within the city by helping to create merchandise with the University of Toronto mark that will stand as a symbol of the University's great and lasting impact on the U of T community.

Your opportunity: The U of T Spaces & Experiences Marketing and Communications team consists of brand, web, media, design, and social media experts who support all the Spaces & Experiences business streams, with a strong focus on brand development and marketing and communications strategies and tactics. The team is highly collaborative with all our Spaces & Experiences business unit partners to ensure the achievement of various business objectives. The Trademark Licensing Officer will help to administer and manage the Trademark Licensing program for the University of Toronto. Under the close direction of the Manager, Trademark Licensing, the incumbent will provide administrative oversight and acts as a liaison for the University's Trademark Licensing policies, programs and processes working in conjunction with an external service provider and numerous internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, which include artwork approvals, providing consultation and creating artwork, and ensuring the University brand is properly and consistently represented on merchandise.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing communication plans that support outreach goals and objectives
  • Implementing marketing and advertising plans to increase revenue-generating activities
  • Implementing community relations outreach plans for targeted audiences
  • Reviewing and approving marketing/communications materials for distribution
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Promoting events and programs to target audiences
  • Researching potential target markets for outreach collaborations
  • Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, fashion, merchandising or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum four years professional experience in a marketing, communications, retail merchandise development, or B2B role
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 applications, Adobe creative suite, WordPress CMS and social media platforms
  • Experience developing workflow systems and business processes
  • Experience maintaining a digital asset management system
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, empathy, sound judgment and discretion
  • Excellent customer service skills, including providing detailed information, assistance and support to clients/customers, along with liaising with suppliers
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines
