Pagemasters North America (PMNA) is seeking a full- or part-time digital editor (contract until Dec. 31, for now) who understands that even the best story won't be read if no one sees it.
In this position, you will:
- Use your solid understanding of SEO best practices to improve display copy and metadata to get stories noticed online
- Identify stories that could resonate with a broader audience and help them excel
- Dive through story archives and find ways to crosslink stories, as well as adding crosslinks to newly published stories
- Find ways to increase reader engagement on key stories
- Respond quickly to breaking news and multi-task under pressure
- See what others don't: Whether it's a typo, an ambiguous statement, an unexpected photo choice or an op-ed that doesn't align with the client's values, you see the whole picture and will speak up when something isn't right
- Always adapt: News is always changing and you will need to be able to switch tasks and reprioritize on a moment's notice
- Learn quickly and apply client's style rules and preferences, as well as their values and editorial standards
- Work both independently and collaboratively
- Be flexible and adapt to changing client standards/needs
Requirements
- Experience editing and publishing news stories for a digital audience
- An ability to package stories with clear, engaging headlines and display copy, as well as integrating images, video and other elements for maximum impact
- Knowledge of SEO and online news best practices
- Strong news judgement: An ability to identify important stories quickly
- Solid copy editing skills
- A broad range of interests and knowledge of current events
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Two or more years of experience in journalism or a related field
While most of our editors are based in Toronto and Calgary, this role can be remote within Canada. PMNA operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year — some evening, weekend and holiday shifts are required.
If you have a passion for digital journalism and a strong knowledge of SEO, apply with a resumé and cover letter By April 22 stating why you would be a good fit for this role and why it appeals to you.
