Full Time, Contract (4 months)

Hourly Rate: Starting at $16.55

Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada's oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Nursing Assistant to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for 'kids of all ages' with sight loss, and their families!

Note that this position will reside at CNIB Lake Joe during the operational season from May to August and will share accommodations with other staff members.

Your Impact at CNIB
  • Provide complete first-aid services to all guests, volunteers and staff, and document all first-aid that is provided.
  • Support guests with medication administration, as needed.
  • Maintain, keep record, and ensure that all first-aid kits are stocked and in place around site, in vehicles and with staff.
  • Ensure all dietary needs for guests are communicated to the kitchen two weeks in advance; coordinate all special diets with the chef and Lead, Guest Experience.
  • Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties, including serving meals, meal set up and clean up, and ensuring that all dietary meals are provided to the correct guests.
  • Assist guests with activities of daily living and minimal personal care.
  • On a rotational basis, be on call for emergencies, which includes being present on site and able to respond to emergencies.
  • Provide support, guidance and leadership to volunteers, guests, and visitors.

Requirements

Who you are:

Education and Certifications

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C, CPR-HCP preferred.
  • Pursuing post-secondary education in Nursing or related field.
  • Current and clear Drivers Abstract and G license an asset.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Self-directed & motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy.
  • Experience working with people with vision loss, deaf-blind and/or special needs is an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a changing and busy environment and work outside for extended periods of time.
  • Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff members if required.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
