We are currently looking to add HDD Drillers to our growing team, based in Calgary, AB.

Reporting to the Crew Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for safe and efficient operation of directional drilling equipment, including Vermeer and Ditch Witch rigs, to support underground utility installation projects. This role requires a strong understanding of drill planning, equipment operation, and safe work practices.

The position involves regular travel to project sites, including out-of-town assignments requiring overnight stays.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate Vermeer and Ditch Witch HDD drilling rigs in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Use Digi Trak locating systems to track and maintain accurate bore paths
  • Operate auxiliary equipment, including backhoes and skid steers, to support drilling operations and site restoration.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, drill plans, identify utility locations, and assess ground conditions to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Complete required documentation, including bore logs, safety reports, and equipment checklists.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment on project objectives.
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and environmental standards.
  • Travel to various job sites as required, including remote and out-of-town locations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience operating HDD equipment, specifically Vermeer and Ditch Witch drills.
  • Proficient in the use of DigiTrak locating equipment.
  • Skilled in operating backhoes and skid steers in a construction setting.
  • Strong understanding of underground utility construction practices and procedures.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs and work in varying outdoor conditions.
  • Able to travel to out-of-town projects and stay in company-provided accommodation as required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license; Class 1 or Class 3 license considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
