The Opportunity:

We're seeking an experienced Manager, Corporate Sustainability on Aviso's Corporate Sustainability team for 12 months. This is a unique opportunity to step into an established sustainability program and drive forward critical initiatives during a pivotal time in Aviso's sustainability journey.

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Sustainability, the Manager, Corporate Sustainability is responsible for maintaining momentum on key sustainability initiatives while supporting the continued development, implementation, and evolution of Aviso's comprehensive Sustainability Strategy. You will also support the implementation of Aviso's diversity, equity, Inclusion and belonging (DEIB) strategy and ongoing Truth and Reconciliation efforts. We are early in our journey, and this role offers the opportunity to help shape our programs and make a significant impact across multiple strategic areas including corporate sustainability, DEIB, and Indigenous Reconciliation. The Corporate Sustainability team sits within our Legal and Privacy function.

What your day looks like:

  • Support the Director, Corporate Sustainability in executing Aviso's sustainability strategy
  • Develop action plans around key sustainability-related areas prioritized in the strategy – People, Products, Planet
  • Work with leads in Aviso's businesses and shared services areas to develop plans to address identified ESG gaps
  • Act as a respected support for Aviso's employee-led committees (philanthropy, DEIB, environmental, culture) and represent the Corporate Sustainability (CS) function on the CS Committee
  • Work with the CS and Communications/Marketing (CXMC) team to develop Aviso's Annual Sustainability Impact Report
  • Integrate ESG considerations into decision-making processes across all business lines including procurement, marketing and product development
  • Collaborate with organizational employee-led committees to ensure alignment of their mandates, activities, and initiatives with Aviso's overall Corporate Sustainability strategy
  • Promote educational initiatives including webinars, lunch-and-learns, and resource sharing around Corporate Sustainability and DEIB topics
  • Continue with the implementation of the Responsible Procurement Program at Aviso
  • Support (and in defined cases lead) efforts towards meaningful collaboration with relevant internal and external partners to facilitate the ongoing development and implementation of the DEIB Corporate Strategy
  • Support with the evaluation of DEIB programming, and the development of DEIB metrics for reporting and evaluation purposes
  • Support in conducting DEIB related research to identify opportunities to enhance our DEIB efforts
  • Support the implementation of Aviso's Truth and Reconciliation efforts as the business moves through the process of prioritizing learning, cross-functional collaboration, and engaging Indigenous Peoples and Communities
  • Ensure alignment between Corporate Sustainability and DEIB initiatives, serving as a bridge between portfolios

Requirements

Your experience and skills:

  • Knowledge, skill and expertise normally acquired through a post-secondary degree in a relevant professional discipline (Sustainability, or Business, Finance or Policy Development with a Sustainability focus) or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Minimum of five years professional experience in a sustainability-focused role at a reputable organization – experience in a wealth management or financial services organization a plus
  • Deep understanding of the ESG and sustainable finance landscape
  • Strong familiarity with key ESG concepts and frameworks
  • Lived and/or professional experience that has promoted an understanding of the various dimensions of diversity and the different barriers faced by underrepresented communities
  • Ability to effectively communicate sustainability needs and concepts
  • Ability to diplomatically push the sustainability agenda forward in an organization that has only recently sought to integrate sustainability concepts, is in the early stages of implementing its DEIB strategy and is seeking to thoughtfully advance its Truth and Reconciliation efforts
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; cross-cultural interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong data management skills and specific ability to interpret ESG data
  • Strong technical understanding of environmental/climate policies, target setting and measurement
  • The ability to work independently on multiple sustainability initiatives simultaneously, but to know when collaboration is necessary to promote organization-wide alignment
  • High degree of professionalism – comfort working directly with senior leaders a must
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset

Salary

This position is posted with an expected salary range of $93,000 - $110,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
