Our Telecommunications group is currently looking to add Directional Driller/Locator to our growing team, based in Castor, AB. This position operates on a 10-days-on, 4-days-off rotation.
Reporting to the Crew Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for operating directional drilling equipment in support of telecommunications infrastructure installation. This role involves a variety of manual and equipment-based tasks, including the operation, maintenance, and safe use of construction machinery and tools. The Driller/Locator is also expected to ensure a safe worksite and support labour activities as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain directional drilling and locating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct and record pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections; maintain driver logbook.
- Participate in daily tailgate/tailboard meetings.
- Maintain daily records of drilling activities.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, utility locates, and site diagrams.
- Follow direction from the Crew Foreman and work collaboratively with team members.
- Load and unload directional bore equipment safely to prevent damage.
- Operate safely in all weather and environmental conditions.
- Handle tools, trucks, and equipment responsibly and with care.
- Assist with general labour tasks when needed.
- Operate power tools and construction equipment as required.
- Install telecom pedestals and place both underground and overhead fibre and copper cable.
- Pull cables, couple conduit, and perform related telecom installation tasks.
- Operate heavy equipment ("yellow iron") and trucks as necessary.
- Access confined spaces and navigate plant site conditions when required.
- Understand ground conditions and utility locate markings prior to excavation.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental procedures on and around heavy equipment and large vehicles.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating construction or directional drilling equipment.
- 2+ years of experience in performing minor maintenance on vehicles and construction equipment.
- Experience operating a bucket truck, digger truck, and pulling trailers is required.
- Travel to job sites outside of the home area as required.
