MISSION

The Director of Finance is a key member of the leadership team and will be responsible for developing and monitoring the total organizational budget, overseeing the preparation of financial reports, providing leadership to the staff team, and encouraging professional growth and development. This role plays a crucial part in controlling the overall finances of the department and establishing accounting controls to ensure the security of physical assets.

The Pod Group is partnering with this organization to place a compassionate and hands-on individual to fulfill the role of the Director of Finance.

PRIORITIES

  • Develops, directs and controls all organizational financial functions to maximum agency effectiveness.
  • Provides financial oversight for the organization.
  • Works with CEO and Directors to develop an Annual Service Plan that includes program targets and balanced revenues and expenditures for all programs.
  • Provides ongoing forecasts through the fiscal year to ensure balanced budgets at year-end.
  • In partnership with the CEO and key leaders, directs the annual budgeting process to ensure the process meets operational needs and funder requirements.
  • Participates with the Board of Governors as well as sub-committees, providing information, and acting as a resource to facilitate decision-making.
  • Responsible for developing capital reserve plans for all agency buildings and facilities and ensuring projects are carried out on time and on budget.
  • Directs the preparation of monthly and yearly CRA tax/charity returns and coordinates communication with government and regulatory agencies.
  • Directs or establishes accounting controls according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for agency operations to ensure the security of physical assets.
  • Oversees the timely and accurate reconciliation of General Ledger accounts.
  • Implements responsive and strength-based leadership strategies to promote a healthy organizational work culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

TALENTS & EXPERTISE

  • A graduate degree in Business Administration or Finance in addition to a CPA designation.
  • Five years management experience, preferably at a senior leadership level.
  • Sound knowledge of data management and software.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare reports, statements and projections for the Senior Leadership Team, Finance Committee and Board of Governors.
  • Consistently achieves results, demonstrating high performance, and challenging self and others to deliver results.
  • Commitment to adaptability and can effectively cope with change, finding ways to advance work and projects. A proven self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit an asset.
  • Must have previous experience working with information technology systems to support business solutions.
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about anti-oppression and antiracism, and able to build authentic relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Leads with curiosity and holds space for continuous learning, growth, and development. Communicates strategically (verbal and written) to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary health/social service setting would be an asset.
  • Ability to give and take direction and problem solve in a high stress environment.
  • Must be able to network and plan at an intra- as well as inter-agency level.
  • Must be able to work independently and interdependently.
