Requirements

  • Master's Degree in one of the following: Master's Degree in Education, Master's Degree in Educational Counselling, Master's Degree in Social Work, Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology, Master's Degree in Applied Psychology;
  • Class 5 driver's license and a roadworthy vehicle to travel to Division schools is required;
  • Certified to provide VTRA training to Division Wellness Teams and Administrators. If the candidate does not possess this qualification, they will be expected to obtain it upon employment

The ideal candidate will:

    • Collaborate with Instructional Services Leadership Team to support all students;
    • Consult with and provide direct support to Division staff regarding counselling supports and services for students;
    • Support school-based Critical Incident and Crisis Response, work closely with Lethbridge Police Services;
    • Serve as a jurisdiction lead and member of the Division Violence Threat Risk Assessment Team as well as a Division trainer to support implementation and training;
    • Serve as a resource for school-based counselling teams;
    • Collaborate with community agencies and facilitate communication between school-based counselling teams and community counselling services;
    • Plan and facilitate staff development for counselling teams as required;
    • Oversee counselling support or arrange for appropriate support;
    • Collaborate with Associate Superintendent and Director of Curriculum to support the implementation of universal strategies that proactively target student wellness;
    • Serve as a member of the Placement Committee;
    • Consult and assist counsellors, administrators, and teachers in developing school-based strategies for students on such issues as behavior, attendance and matters of interagency collaboration;
    • Participate on Division committees related to student health and wellness and chair Positive Spaces Committee;
    • Serve on Division, Community and Provincial committees that relate to counselling;
    • Manage Counselling budget and determine allocation/distribution of resources;
    • Perform evaluations of team members as required;
    • Previous leadership experience will be considered an asset:
    • Develop yearly strategic plan and present to Board as needed.
  • Preferred Qualifications for the Counselling Coordinator Role:
    • Previous counselling or therapy experience

Conditions of Employment:

To ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:

  • A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification may be a valid driver's license, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee's legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
